Born in Havana, Cuba, Tomás Regalado arrived in Miami in 1962 via Operation Pedro Pan and built a distinguished career in broadcast journalism, covering international events and becoming the first Cuban-American in the White House Press Corps under Presidents Reagan, Bush, and Clinton. Elected to the Miami City Commission in 1996 and reelected multiple times, he served as the 42nd Mayor of Miami from 2009 to 2017, followed by an appointment as Director of the Office of Cuba Broadcasting under President Trump. Deeply rooted in Miami, Regalado comes from a family with a legacy of public service, including his father, a political prisoner and journalist. In 2024, he was elected Property Appraiser of Miami-Dade County, assuming office in 2025 to lead the independent office focused on property assessments.
