Dr. Gallon eliminated all 'F' and 'D' schools in District 1 since 2016, achieving 100% A, B, or C ratings with nearly 75% A or B, including Miami Gardens high schools Miami Carol City and Miami Norland. He secured nearly $2 billion for teacher pay and school safety, over $200 million in construction improvements, and launched programs like District 1 Student of the Month and Black History Month Showcase. His leadership earned honors from the City of Miami Gardens and recognition as a key voice for equity in Miami-Dade education.

Born and raised in Miami's Liberty City, Dr. Steve Gallon III graduated from Florida A&M University with Magna Cum Laude honors in English Education and earned advanced degrees from Florida International University, including a doctorate in Educational Leadership. He advanced through Miami-Dade County Public Schools as a teacher, assistant principal at Holmes Elementary—where he turned around a critically low-performing school—and principal of Miami Northwestern Senior High for seven years. His career includes roles as Administrative Director for at-risk schools, Superintendent in Plainfield, New Jersey, and President/CEO of Tri-Star Leadership. Elected in 2016 and re-elected unopposed in 2020 and 2024, he has over 30 years in education focused on urban turnarounds. A 25-year resident of Miami Gardens and member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, he is also an author of three education books and a national speaker.
