Shane Battier, born in Detroit, Michigan, had a distinguished 13-year NBA career highlighted by two championships with the Miami Heat from 2011 to 2014, an NCAA title at Duke University, and pioneering use of basketball analytics. After retiring, he served as a consultant and VP of analytics and basketball development for the Heat. He co-founded the Battier Take Charge Foundation in 2010 with his wife to provide scholarships and educational resources for underserved youth in Miami, Houston, and Detroit. Battier chose to make Miami his permanent home due to his love for the city.
