Born in Azua Province, Dominican Republic, on September 7, 1995, Sandy Alcántara signed with the St. Louis Cardinals as an international free agent in 2013 and debuted in MLB with them in 2017. Traded to the Miami Marlins after the 2017 season, he has become the franchise's cornerstone pitcher. Career highlights include All-Star selections in 2019 and 2022, Marlins MVP awards in 2021 and 2022, and winning the National League Cy Young Award in 2022 as the first Marlins pitcher to do so.
