Born in Miami in 1971 to Cuban immigrants, Rubio graduated from South Miami Senior High School, earned a political science degree from the University of Florida, and a law degree from the University of Miami School of Law in 1996. His political career began as a West Miami City Commissioner in the late 1990s, followed by election to the Florida House of Representatives in 2000, where he served as Majority Leader and Speaker from 2006-2008, pioneering the '100 Innovative Ideas for Florida’s Future' agenda. Deeply rooted in Miami, he lives in West Miami with his wife Jeanette and four children, balancing family life with public service. Rubio represented Florida in the U.S. Senate from 2011 to 2025 before being sworn in as Secretary of State in 2025, also serving as acting national security advisor.
