A lifelong Floridian and first in her family to attend college, Lucia graduated from Spring Hill College with a degree in English and secondary education, later earning advanced degrees from Florida International University. She taught English and Language Arts at Miami Beach Senior High from 2005 to 2020, impacting thousands of students, and received the Political Advocate of the Year Award from the National Education Association in 2013. Deeply connected to Miami through her teaching career and family life in Miami Beach, where she volunteers at St. Patrick Church, Lucia served on the Miami-Dade County School Board for District 3 starting in 2020, focusing on school safety and student preparedness. Currently, she is running as a Democratic candidate for State Representative in House District 106, challenging incumbent Fabian Basabe after a previous congressional bid.
