Kenneth Arthur Jessell was born July 10, 1955, and is a native South Floridian from Fort Lauderdale. He was the first person in his family to attend college, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Florida State University, followed by an MBA and PhD in Finance, also from FSU. Before his presidency at FIU, Jessell spent 26 years at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton as a senior vice president handling financial affairs, then joined FIU in 2009 as Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration and Chief Financial Officer. He was appointed interim president of FIU on January 21, 2022, following former president Mark B. Rosenberg's resignation, and was officially confirmed as FIU's sixth president in November 2022 with a three-year contract. He served in this role until February 2025 when he was succeeded by Jeanette Nuñez.
