Katie Meier is a former standout college basketball player at Duke University, graduating in 1990 before launching her coaching career. She began as head coach at Charlotte for four seasons, then took over the University of Miami women's basketball team in 2005, coaching for 19 years until her retirement in March 2024. Under her leadership, the Hurricanes achieved 11 seasons with 20+ wins, 13 postseason appearances including 10 straight NCAA Tournaments from 2009-2019, and a historic Elite Eight run in 2023. Named AP National Coach of the Year in 2011 and ACC Coach of the Year that same season, she became Miami's all-time winningest basketball coach (men's or women's). Post-retirement, she transitioned into a special adviser and ambassador role for the University of Miami athletic department. Her deep ties to Coral Gables stem from nearly two decades building the program into a national contender.
