As Superintendent, Dr. Dotres has overseen Miami-Dade County Public Schools achieving a record-high graduation rate of 93.1% for the 2024-25 school year, the highest in district history. A product of M-DCPS himself, he has dedicated his career to improving outcomes for students, including innovative programs like autism inclusion and contributions to national organizations like the Council of the Great City Schools. His leadership addresses critical issues such as federal funding and teacher recruitment in South Florida's largest school system.

Arriving in Miami at age five as an immigrant English Language Learner, Dr. Dotres graduated from Miami-Dade County Public Schools and began his career there as a teacher and reading coach in 1988. He advanced through roles including principal of Hialeah Gardens Elementary, where he pioneered an autism inclusion program, region superintendent, and assistant superintendent in M-DCPS, with stints as Chief Academic Officer in Broward County and Deputy Superintendent in Collier County. Holding advanced degrees from St. Thomas University, University of Miami, Barry University, and Florida International University, he has co-authored educational publications and testified before Florida legislative committees on teacher retention and literacy. Inducted into the Miami Dade College Alumni Hall of Fame in 2013, he became M-DCPS Superintendent in 2022, succeeding Alberto Carvalho. His contract ends February 14, 2027, after which he plans to retire following over four decades in education.
