James John Langer was born May 16, 1948, and passed away August 29, 2019, at age 71. He joined the Miami Dolphins as a free agent in 1970 after being cut by the Cleveland Browns and developed from an obscure substitute into one of the finest centers ever to play. During his ten seasons with Miami (1970-1979), Langer was named first-team All-Pro four times and selected to six Pro Bowls, playing every offensive down in the Dolphins' perfect 1972 season. He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1987, his first year of eligibility, and finished his career with the Minnesota Vikings (1980-1981).
