Born in Tacoma, Washington, and a UCLA alumnus, Jeff Conine was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 58th round in 1987, debuting in MLB in 1990 before joining the expansion Florida Marlins in 1992. He played 17 MLB seasons across six teams, batting .285 with 214 home runs and 1,071 RBIs overall, but shone brightest with the Marlins, hitting .290 with 120 home runs and earning All-Star nods in 1994 and 1995, including MVP honors for a pinch-hit homer in 1995. Nicknamed 'Mr. Marlin' for going 4-for-4 in the team's inaugural game in 1993 and appearing in both World Series wins (1997 and 2003), his deep ties to South Florida stem from playing half his career there and residing in Weston. Currently, he works as a front office assistant for the Miami Marlins while serving as associate head coach for FIU baseball since 2021, overseeing hitting and player development.
