As County Commissioner, Higgins planned or created nearly 7,000 affordable and workforce housing units, invested $3 million in grants for hundreds of small businesses, and expanded transit including the Better Bus Network, Metrorail, and trolleys. As mayor, she continues cutting red tape, funding police for safe streets, and fostering parks, housing affordability, and economic growth across Miami.

Eileen Higgins, born June 30, 1964, is a Cornell MBA '89 alum, former diplomat, and dedicated public servant in Miami-Dade County. She was elected to the Miami-Dade County Commission for District 5 in a 2018 special election, winning re-elections in 2022 and 2024 unopposed, before resigning in 2025. As commissioner, she represented diverse communities facing inequalities, focusing on practical solutions for housing, transit, and small businesses. In 2025, she ran for and won the Miami mayoral election in a December 9 runoff against Emilio Gonzalez, securing 59% of the vote. She was sworn in as mayor on December 19, 2025, making history as Miami's first female, first Democratic (since 1997), and first non-Hispanic mayor (since 1996). Currently, she leads the City of Miami, bringing her experience to address citywide challenges like red tape, safety, and prosperity.
