Born in Riviera Beach, Florida, Devin Hester overcame personal tragedies including his mother's severe injury and father's death to excel in football at Suncoast High School, earning Parade and USA Today All-American honors as Florida's top prospect. At the University of Miami from 2003-2005, he became the first recent Hurricane to play offense, defense, and special teams, famously returning the opening kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown against Florida as a freshman and winning the 2004 Big East Indoor long jump title. Drafted by the Chicago Bears in the second round of the 2006 NFL Draft, Hester played 11 seasons with the Bears, Falcons, Ravens, and Seahawks, setting NFL records for most punt return touchdowns (14) and total special teams touchdowns (20). Inducted into the University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame in 2018 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2024, he remains deeply connected to his South Florida roots. Now retired, he resides in the area with his wife and three sons.
