As Commissioner for District 8, representing nearly 300,000 residents, she has spearheaded infrastructure projects like the 87th Avenue bridge for traffic relief and connectivity over the C-100 canal, fulfilling key campaign promises. She created community programs such as Safe Summers, Hometown Heroes, and Community Conversations, alongside initiatives for bridges, micro mobility trails, and affordable housing. Serving as Chairwoman of the Airport Committee and Vice Chairwoman of Appropriations, she advances transportation, resiliency, and funding for South Miami-Dade.

Danielle Cohen Higgins, daughter of Jamaican immigrants, was born and raised in south Miami-Dade, where she continues to live with her husband and two young children. She began her career at Greenberg Traurig before founding her own boutique law firm, Cohen Law, and now serves as Partner and Business Unit Leader at Kelley Kronenberg, focusing on complex commercial litigation. In 2019, while pregnant with her second child, she announced her candidacy for Miami-Dade County Commissioner District 8; she was appointed in 2020 and overwhelmingly elected in 2022. A dedicated community servant, she has held board positions with the South Florida American Heart Association, Miami Children’s Health Foundation, Take Stock in Children, Ruth’s List, and the Florida Justice Association. Her legal expertise and public service intersect to advocate for South Dade residents facing local challenges. She remains deeply committed to uplifting her community through policy and direct action.
