Born Columba Garnica Gallo in León, Guanajuato, Mexico, she met Jeb Bush in 1971 and married him in 1974, becoming part of a prominent political family. As First Lady of Florida from 1999 to 2007, she championed causes like the Florida Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse, and Arts for Life scholarships for young artists. She co-founded Arts for Life! in 1999 with Arts for a Complete Education to integrate arts into Florida's education system. A resident of Coral Gables in Miami with her husband, she maintains strong family ties in the area, including her mother and sister. She avoids the political spotlight despite her connections and serves as Honorary Chair for the Florida/Wakayama Sister State Committee. Her humanitarian work focuses on anti-domestic violence campaigns and support for young artists.
