Born in 1948 in Auburn, New York, and raised in Queens, Bruce Sherman built a successful career in finance, co-founding the wealth-management firm Private Capital Management where he served as Chairman and CEO. In 2009, he retired to form his own family office managing personal and family assets. In 2017, he led a group including Derek Jeter to purchase the Miami Marlins for $1.2 billion, becoming chairman and principal shareholder, with Jeter later exiting in 2022. Sherman has overseen a rebuilding process, including two playoff appearances, new training facilities, and a strengthened front office. Deeply connected to South Florida through philanthropy, he and his wife Cynthia support the Marlins Foundation and initiatives like the Palm Beach Vision Health Initiative. As of early 2026, he announced intentions to sell the Marlins while expressing commitment to future winning.
