Born on January 13, 1968, in Scarsdale, New York, to a Jewish family of Hungarian heritage, Andy Jassy earned his bachelor's degree from Harvard University in 1990 and an MBA in 1996. He joined Amazon in 1997, shortly after its IPO, starting in marketing before co-ideating AWS with Jeff Bezos in 2003, launching it in 2006 with a team of 57. As CEO of AWS from 2016 to 2021, he transformed it into the world's leading cloud provider. Named Bezos's successor in 2021, Jassy became Amazon's President and CEO on July 5, receiving a $212.7 million ten-year pay package, with $40.1 million in 2024 compensation. He serves on Amazon's Board of Directors and is a minority owner of the NHL's Seattle Kraken.
