Alexis Calatayud, a 29-year-old Cuban American, graduated from Florida International University where she served two terms as student body president and interned for Senator Marco Rubio. She began her career managing campaigns, including Vance Aloupis's successful runs for the Florida House in 2018 and 2020, and served as his legislative aide from 2018 to 2020. From 2020, she worked at the Florida Department of Education as Director of Legislative Affairs, Public Policy, and Programs, advocating for increased funding in public education, teacher salaries, and school safety. Elected to the Florida Senate for District 38 in 2022, she assumed office on November 8 and now chairs the Education Postsecondary Committee while vice-chairing Education Pre-K-12. She co-chairs the Florida chapter of the Future Caucus and is an inaugural member of the 19th Collective, a coalition of women in government. A pro-Israel advocate since visiting in 2017, she fights antisemitism and connects legislators with the pro-Israel community.
