Tenor Vocalist
Mark Stevens joined The Dovells in the early 1960s after stints with The Gems, delivering the piercing tenor behind smash hits like 'Bristol Stomp'—a Cash Box No. 1—and 'You Can't Sit Down,' which captured a unique white-group twist on R&B rhythms. Following lineup changes, he paired with Jerry Summers in the 1970s, evolving into a Dean Martin-Jerry Lewis-inspired comedy act that locked in 16 weeks yearly at Las Vegas resorts while sustaining national tours. The duo backed Chubby Checker on 'Let's Twist Again' and performed for President Bill Clinton at inaugural events, keeping the Dovells' energy alive for decades. Though Philly-born, Stevens' tracks blasted across South Florida airwaves, drawing twist enthusiasts to sold-out Miami shows during the height of their chart dominance.
