Nestled between Brickell's gleaming towers and Coral Gables' Mediterranean elegance, Coconut Grove maintains its reputation as Miami's most bohemian neighborhood while quietly assembling one of the city's most impressive dining scenes. What was once known primarily for its artists' lofts and sailboat-dotted marina has transformed into a culinary destination that rivals South Beach and Wynwood, all while preserving the laid-back charm that makes the Grove feel like a village within the metropolis.
The neighborhood's dining renaissance reflects a broader evolution. Where galleries and vintage shops once dominated, a new generation of restaurateurs has created spaces that honor the Grove's creative spirit while elevating its culinary profile. From wood-fired steakhouses to intimate wine bars, the area now offers sophisticated dining experiences that attract food lovers from across Miami-Dade.
The Culinary Landscape: From Fire to Fine Wine
The Grove's dining evolution is perhaps best exemplified by Ossobuco Coconut Grove, which according to ossobuco.miami, specializes in "global cuisine focused on fine meats grilled over open fire paired with organic, seasonal vegetables." Led by Chef and Grill Master Guillermo Eleicegui, the restaurant at 2801A Florida Ave emphasizes what they call "honest cuisine" - treating raw materials with respect in a relaxed atmosphere designed for sharing moments with friends and family.

Some of the Grove's most compelling dining stories emerge from deeply personal connections to the community. Loretta & The Butcher at 3195 Commodore Plaza represents the realization of a dream conceived over four bottles of wine in Mendoza, Argentina. Partners Mariano Codaro and Costa Grillas, who met in 2007 working at a local Italian restaurant, spent nearly a decade perfecting their hospitality approach before opening their "small quaint boutique restaurant."

Loretta & The Butcher
In 2007, Mariano Codaro and Costa Grillas met in Miami while working at a local well-known Italian restaurant. They perfected the art of the complete hospitality experience working together for almost a decade, in every position feasible! They dreamt of teaming up and opening u p a small quaint boutique restaurant, where residents from the community could feel at home, while enjoying a great meal at a fair price, with impeccable service. Loretta and the Butcher is that dream fulfilled! Hailing from Argentina, Mariano developed a rustic classic menu, centered around quality meats and rich bold red wines, staples in his upbringing in the outskirts of Buenos Aires. Of Greek descent, Costa grew up in a lifestyle focused on using food as a vehicle for socializing and honing his hospitality skills. Having traveled extensively throughout Argentina, Costa’s affinity for great Malbecs quickly became an obsession. On one of their many wine expeditions to Mendoza, Mariano and Costa sat down and over four bottles of wine conceptualized their dream restaurant. From the type of wood handle the steak knife would have to the local farm where the entraña steak cut would be sourced, to the type of sneakers the servers would wear! Loretta was the name of the host at the vineyard that night. All the stars were aligned that night because the Gods truly made sure we were in good hands! Loretta’s husband Diego had gone hunting earlier that day and he prepared us a feast for royals! That night the name “Loretta and the Butcher” was born!Read less

Beyond the Plate: Living the Grove Life
The dining scene reflects broader qualities that make Coconut Grove unique in Miami's landscape. Unlike the high-rise density of Brickell or the beach scene energy of South Beach, the Grove maintains a village-like atmosphere where tree-lined streets connect waterfront views with artistic heritage. The neighborhood's restaurants serve not just as dining destinations but as community gathering spaces that honor both the area's bohemian past and its sophisticated present.
For residents, the dining diversity means never having to venture far for world-class cuisine. Whether it's a casual morning at Il Giardino at Mr. C Miami for day-boosting smoothies and pastries, afternoon spritzes that stretch into evening, or special occasions at Bellini's Italian elegance, the Grove offers dining experiences that match any occasion without sacrificing the neighborhood's distinctive character.
Many Grove restaurants offer outdoor seating and accommodate larger groups. Ossobuco, when operational, can handle receptions up to 100 people, while most establishments welcome reservations through OpenTable or Resy.
The Grove's dining scene continues to evolve while maintaining the creative spirit that has defined the neighborhood for decades. As Miami's culinary landscape becomes increasingly competitive, Coconut Grove has positioned itself as a destination where innovation meets tradition, where global flavors find local expression, and where every meal contributes to the ongoing story of one of Miami's most distinctive communities.
Whether for day-boosting smoothies and pastries in the morning, sweet and savory crêpes, or enjoying afternoon spritzes until you can’t spritz anymore, you’ll feel great doing it in the stylish Mr. C lobby cafe. Live entertainment and movie nights add to the fun.
