Born in Cuba in 1977, Yoel Romero excelled as a freestyle wrestler, winning the 1999 World Championship, 2000 Olympic silver medal, and multiple Pan American titles before defecting. He transitioned to MMA, competing in Strikeforce, UFC middleweight where he challenged for the title, and Bellator light heavyweight. Romero trains at American Top Team in South Florida near Hollywood, establishing deep roots in the Miami area. He resides in Miami at 16146 SW 86th Terrace and serves as president of Yoel Romero Store Corp. Currently, he fights in the light heavyweight division of Real American Freestyle (RAF), where he was interim champion.
