As Dolphins wide receivers coach from 2022-2024, Welker elevated Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle to career-best performances in receiving yards and touchdowns in 2023, strengthening Miami's explosive offense. His return to coach in his former playing city bridged his player legacy—where he led in receptions and returns—with modern Dolphins success, contributing to the team's competitive resurgence in South Florida.
About
Wes Welker began his NFL career as an undrafted free agent with the San Diego Chargers in 2004, was quickly signed by the Miami Dolphins, and became their leading receiver and return specialist before being traded to the New England Patriots in 2007. There, he achieved stardom with six seasons of All-Pro honors, five Pro Bowls, and NFL records for receptions by an undrafted player. After retiring, he transitioned to coaching, serving as an offensive assistant with the Houston Texans, wide receivers coach for the San Francisco 49ers, and then returned to Miami as the Dolphins' wide receivers coach from 2022 to 2024. In Miami, he coached under Mike McDaniel, whom he knew from San Francisco, helping Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle set career highs in yardage and touchdowns in 2023. As of 2025, he has moved to the Washington Commanders as a personnel analyst.
