Wayne A. Jones began his 27-year career with the Miami Beach Police Department as a patrol officer, advancing through detective, sergeant, lieutenant, captain, and major roles before becoming Deputy Chief in 2019. He holds a bachelor's in political science and public administration from Florida Memorial University, a master's in public administration from Florida International University, and an associate's in professional piloting from Miami Dade College. As sergeant in community affairs, he founded the Homeless Resource Officer Program, now nationally recognized. While major in support services, he boosted female officer recruitment from 12% to 18%, and in criminal investigations, he created the human trafficking unit that led Miami-Dade in arrests. He assumed the role of the 21st Police Chief on September 1, 2023, bringing deep local expertise to modernize policing.
