Born around 1936, Phillip Frost is a trained dermatologist who served in the U.S. Public Health Service and taught at the University of Miami School of Medicine before chairing dermatology at Mt. Sinai Medical Center. He founded IVAX Corporation, a multinational pharmaceuticals firm in Miami, and later became chairman of TEVA Pharmaceuticals. Frost invented a disposable punch biopsy tool and therapies for rhinitis, cell disease, and diabetes, earning induction into the Florida Inventors Hall of Fame. Deeply connected to Miami, he resides on Star Island with his wife Patricia and serves on the University of Miami board of trustees. Currently, he is CEO and Chairman of OPKO Health, a Miami-based healthcare company focused on diagnostics and therapeutics.
