Judge Hirsch issued a landmark 2011 ruling finding Florida's drug statute unconstitutional as applied to possession and delivery charges, resulting in the dismissal of criminal charges against 40 defendants in Miami-Dade County. He has received numerous awards recognizing his judicial excellence and commitment to justice, including the 2023 National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers' Judicial Recognition Award and the 2013 Gerald Kogan Judicial Distinction Award from the Miami Chapter of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

Milton Hirsch is a judge of the Eleventh Judicial Circuit of Florida, serving since January 2011. He earned his Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law Center and began his legal career with the Miami-Dade County State Attorney's Office, where he rose to Assistant Chief of Narcotics Prosecution before entering private practice in 1987. Before his judicial appointment, Hirsch practiced criminal defense and was recognized in Best Lawyers in America and Florida Super Lawyers. He is an adjunct professor at the University of Miami School of Law and has authored The Shadow of Justice, a novel that won first place in the 2004 Midwest Independent Publishers Association mystery/suspense category.
