Born in Pinole, California, Gino Torretta starred as quarterback for the University of Miami Hurricanes from 1989 to 1992, winning the Heisman Trophy in 1992, Maxwell Award, Davey O'Brien Award, and Walter Camp Player of the Year while contributing to national championships in 1989 and 1991. He set multiple Miami passing records, including career yards (7,690), completions (555), and longest pass (99 yards, an NCAA record), and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2009, University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame in 2003, and Florida Sports Hall of Fame. Torretta graduated with a Business Management degree in 1991 and briefly played in the NFL. He resides in Miami with his wife Bernadette and has deep ties to the University of Miami as Past-President of the National Alumni Association and a 2008 inductee into the program's Ring of Honor. In 2006, he founded Touchdown Radio for national college football broadcasts. Currently, he serves as Manager of Institutional Sales at Gabelli Asset Management.
