Miami Connection
Snitzer has been instrumental in developing Miami's contemporary art landscape, particularly through championing Latin American and Caribbean diaspora artists. He was pivotal in securing the Artseen venue, a 15,000 square-foot studio and exhibition space in the Wynwood Arts District, and created the NWSA Visual Arts Honors Program. His gallery has maintained a rigorous exhibition schedule with at least eight rotating shows annually, positioning Miami as a destination for contemporary art on both local and global scales.
About
Born in Philadelphia in 1950, Fredric Snitzer graduated from Philadelphia College of Art as a sculptor and earned an MFA from Penn State University. He relocated to Miami in the late 1970s and opened his first gallery on Biltmore Way in Coral Gables in 1977, establishing himself as an early champion of contemporary Latin American art. Over nearly five decades, Snitzer has expanded his gallery presence across multiple Miami locations including Wynwood and downtown Miami at 1540 NE Miami Court. He is recognized as a trendsetter in presenting cutting-edge contemporary art and has served on the selection committee for Art Basel Miami Beach for the past 13 years. In addition to his gallery operations, Snitzer is deeply invested in Miami's New World School of the Arts, where he teaches sculpture and curates exhibitions.
