About
Born and raised in Washington, D.C., R. Donahue Peebles founded The Peebles Corporation in 1983, initially developing commercial properties there before relocating headquarters to Miami in 1997 after winning rights to redevelop the historic Royal Palm Hotel, marking him as the first African American to own and develop a major U.S. hotel. His career highlights include transforming the segregated Miami Beach Bath Club into luxury condos in 1998 and expanding into hospitality and high-end residential divisions managing billions in assets. Deeply connected to Miami since the mid-1990s, he resides in Coral Gables with his family, including son Donahue Peebles III, who is now COO. Currently, Peebles serves as chairman and CEO of The Peebles Corporation and its affordable housing arm, Legacy Real Estate Development, promoting economic inclusion via Affirmative Development practices. He is actively planning succession by elevating his children to C-suite roles.
