About
Born in Spain in 1973 to Cuban parents who fled to Hialeah, Florida shortly after, David Castillo graduated as valedictorian from Hialeah High School and attended Yale University. He returned to Miami in the late 1990s, working at the Miami Art Museum (now PAMM) where he connected with emerging artists. In 2005, he opened his gallery in a rundown Wynwood warehouse, helping pioneer the district's rise as a trendy arts center. Despite financial struggles during the 2009 recession, he persevered with support from artists and collectors. The gallery later moved to Lincoln Road in Miami Beach for better Art Basel access, and in 2020 relocated to a larger space in the Miami Design District. Today, he continues to focus on cutting-edge contemporary art, new media, and performance.
