Born on November 26, 1960, in Miami Beach to former Mayor Seymour Gelber and educator Edith Gelber, Dan Gelber was raised with a strong commitment to public service. He served nearly a decade as a federal prosecutor handling public corruption, economic crimes, and becoming a top deputy before being appointed Chief Counsel to the U.S. Senate’s Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations by Senator Sam Nunn. Returning to Florida, he represented Miami Beach in the state legislature from 2000 to 2010, including as House Minority Leader, championing public safety, schools, and anti-corruption laws. Elected Mayor of Miami Beach in 2017 with 82% of the vote, he served three terms until 2023, focusing on infrastructure, arts, and resilience. In 2012, he co-founded Gelber Schachter & Greenberg, P.A., where he excels in complex civil litigation and white-collar defense, earning accolades like Best Lawyers in America and Chambers Eminent Practitioner. Today, he remains active in Miami's civic life, including on the Miami City Ballet board.
