In Miami-Dade County, Judge Bloom created transformative programs including Lawyers Join Hands for Students, DUI In-Jail Treatment Program, Smoking Tobacco Offender Program (S.T.O.P.), It’s Your Life for foster youth aging out of care, and I’m Ready as an alternative to boot camp for youthful offenders. Her 20 years on the state bench shaped local justice initiatives before her federal role. She continues influencing South Florida through mentorship of University of Miami law interns and leadership in federal bar associations.
About
Beth Francine Bloom, born in 1962 in the Bronx, NY, earned her B.S. from the University of Florida in 1984 and J.D. cum laude from the University of Miami School of Law in 1988. She practiced law privately in Miami from 1988 to 1994 before serving as a traffic magistrate and then as a Miami-Dade County Court Judge from 1995 to 2010, rising to Associate Administrative Judge. Appointed to the Eleventh Judicial Circuit Court by Governor Charlie Crist in 2010, she handled criminal and civil divisions until 2014. Nominated by President Barack Obama and confirmed by the Senate on June 24, 2014, she now serves as a U.S. District Judge in Miami at the Wilkie D. Ferguson Jr. Courthouse. She chairs the Southern District’s Local Rules Committee and remains active in judicial education as an adjunct at University of Miami Law and visiting faculty at Harvard Law School’s Trial Advocacy Workshop.
