About
Andy Elisburg joined the Miami Heat as an intern in its inaugural 1988 season while completing his Sports Administration degree at St. Thomas University, where he graduated in 1989 and later served as a student manager for the men's basketball team. Starting in public relations, he progressed through roles including Assistant Director of Public Relations, Director of Team Services, Director of Team Operations, and Vice President of Basketball Operations before becoming Senior Vice President and Assistant General Manager. In 2013, he was promoted to General Manager, reporting to CEO Nick Arison and President Pat Riley, overseeing salary cap administration, talent acquisition, league compliance, and operations for the Heat and their G League affiliate, the Sioux Falls Skyforce. Elisburg played pivotal roles in major moves like drafting Dwyane Wade, acquiring Shaquille O'Neal, forming the Big Three, and bringing in Jimmy Butler, contributing to three NBA championships. In May 2025, he faced a severe health crisis involving infections requiring multiple surgeries and partial foot amputation, yet returned to work with ongoing physical therapy. St. Thomas University honored him with induction into their Athletic Hall of Fame in 2017 and the first Leader for Life Award in 2004.
