Born Ana Violeta Navarro-Cárdenas in Nicaragua on December 28, 1971, she fled with her family to the U.S. in 1980 at age eight due to the Sandinista revolution. She graduated from the University of Miami with a BA in Latin American Studies and Political Science in 1993, followed by a Juris Doctorate in 1997. Navarro served on Florida Governor Jeb Bush's transition team and as his first Director of Immigration Policy. She later worked in the private sector on immigration and Central American policy, acted as a special advisor to Nicaragua's government for NACARA, and was U.S. Ambassador to the UN Human Rights Commission in 2001, condemning Cuba's abuses. A prominent GOP strategist, she was national Hispanic co-chair for Jon Huntsman's 2012 campaign and John McCain's 2008 Hispanic Advisory Council. Today, she is a political commentator for CNN, CNN en Español, ABC News, and Telemundo, and a permanent co-host on The View since 2022.
