Born April 25, 1962, Adam Silver is an American lawyer and sports executive who joined the NBA in 1992 as senior VP and COO of NBA Entertainment. He worked his way through various positions including NBA Chief of Staff and Special Assistant to the Commissioner before becoming Deputy Commissioner and Chief Operating Officer under David Stern in 2006. When Stern retired in 2014, Silver was unanimously elected NBA Commissioner by the NBA Board of Governors on February 1, 2014. Under his leadership, the league has experienced significant economic growth and global expansion, particularly in China, while he has also been instrumental in developing new leagues and digital platforms. Silver has been recognized as SportsBusiness Journal's Executive of the Decade and ranked No. 1 on its list of 50 Most Influential People in Sports Business, and has been named to TIME's 100 Most Influential People and Fortune's 50 Greatest Leaders.
